The Reel Thing

Last week, I found myself sat in an old warehouse behind a cafe in Brick Lane with a glass of free wine in hand and surrounded by a buzz of creatives, eager to watch what was about to be shown on the projector in front of them.

Some of us from work headed up there to be part of the buzz, sitting amongst the conversations of the theme on some 1950 (probably older!) sofas, trying to get the best view of the projector. The invitation also stated free alcohol, so that was a deal-maker for a lot of us!

With the lights dimmed, and the last few coming in the door, the evening started with what turned out to be my favourite of the night…

Welcome to The Reed Short Film Competion 2012. Where anyone  with a video camera can showcase their work against a theme, with this years being ‘The Boss.’ For me this is my kind of social evening, networking with other professionals in my industry whilst watching some brilliant work! The only problem was trying to work out who should win the £10,000 prize!

With so many videos, they were shown in 20 min reels, allowing for a quick break inbetween to grab some more wine and have a quick chat. Each video left the room applauding, and here is another I really enjoyed!

Whilst some of the videos were not as good as others, you have to take your hat off to everyone who entered. I know how difficult it can be to produce a vision you have, and some of these showed that. However, the ones that did well made the shortlist and votes are now being taken for the winner! head over to the website where you can see all the finalists. Voting takes 2 mins!

At the end of the evening, the lights came back up to a round of applause and we made our move back out onto Brick Lane. Wide eyed and impressed at what we saw, whilst turning away the temptation for an Indian dinner!
